LITCHFIELD — White Memorial Conservation Center has posted its calendar of events for January, 2021. All of the programs are via Zoom or Facebook Live.

The virtual program for noon on Saturday, January 9 is The Pandemic Pantry ~ Homage to the Apple.

Human beings have been munching apples since prehistoric times. Apple pips have been found in Neolithic Britain. Ten thousand years ago carbonized apple remains have been found near Swiss and Italian lakeside homes.

In Switzerland and in the regions adjoining the Caucasus mountains, ancient humans even appear to have dry-stored apple-halves for winter.

Today, the Pandemic Pantry celebrates this glorious fruit with 5 preparations: curried butternut squash and apple soup; a heavenly chicken salad with apples, plumped raisins, and toasted pecans; a classic French recipe, poulet a la Normande; raw apple muffins, and Houlihan applesauce cake.

The free class will take place via Zoom and Facebook Live.
