WATERTOWN — State Rep. Joe Polletta, R-68, posted a Facebook live update on his official state page at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 16 to give information on local and state responses to the Covid-19 virus.

He discussed the following key points: since Sunday, March 15, there have been an additional 15 residents in the state that have tested positive, which brings the state total to 41.

Gov. Lamont signed an executive order on Monday, March 16 which takes the following action: it revises the previously enacted prohibition of large gatherings to a capacity of 50 people and adds religious gatherings to the list of activities subject to the limit.

It limits restaurants to non-alcoholic beverages and take-out/delivery services only, effective 8 p.m. Monday, March 16.

It requires closure of on-site operations at off-track betting facility operations, gyms, fitness studios and movie theaters effective 8 p.m. Monday, March 16.

Drive-through testing has been approved at seven state hospitals. Healthcare providers are being granted a streamlined approval process to accelerate availability of Covid-19-related treatment and services.

The state Department of Education has been working with school districts on developing distance learning plans, as well as ensuring students have access to nutritious meals.

According to Mr. Polletta, there are three confirmed cases in Litchfield County, and one confirmed case in Waterbury.

He said with a doctor’s note, people may get tested at Waterbury Hospital on Robbins Street, where law officials are directing them to the testing center.

“We have a very healthy general fund balance in the town and are well equipped to handle an outbreak if and when it occurs,” said Mr. Polletta.

He said that small businesses will be given low interest loans, if they are adversely affected by the closures.
