WATERTOWN - Athletes in their own right, the Watertown High School cheerleading team is ready to put it’s competitive talents on display for spectators at WHS games as well as in their own competitions.
“We’re excited to be officially kicking off our fall season and getting back to cheering at traditional football games and leading the crowd,” said coach Miranda Weidemier.
“This fall we will be back on the sidelines, preparing to competing in a few game day competitions, and bringing back that school spirit and community connection we were missing last year; and believe me, we really missed it,” said Weidemier.
The team plans to get back to it’s oustanding service in the community, Weidemier pointed out.
“We are going to be organizing ‘Spirit Nights’ at the games such as ‘Team up for St. Jude’ for childhood cancer month, a ‘Pink Game’ for breast cancer awareness, and a Pop Warner night to get our youth programs involved,” Weidemier said.
“As for the team, we are younger this year but they are definitely bringing a lot of talent and passion as well as what feels like a really great team chemistry, with everyone working well together,” said Weidemier.
The WHS captains will be Ella Kijak, Ruth Fomo, Jordan Hurely, and Alexa Philippi.
“Our fall season really helps us to prepare and progress our skills for competition season in the winter,” said Weidemier.
“We’re all looking forward to live events again this winter in place of the virtual competitions we participated in last year,” said a smiling Weidemier.
