SOUTHBURY — Mary Ann (Ditter) Cote, a long-time resident of Southbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 14, 2019. She leaves behind her husband of 50 years, George W. Cote, Jr.
She lived in Southbury since the second grade and attended the consolidated school system. She was part of the first graduating class of Southbury High School in 1956 with only 19 students. After graduation, she worked at United Shoe Machinery as an office assistant. After the birth of her first child, William, she became a stay-at-home mom and worked part-time at Heritage Village as a caregiver.
She was very active in Sacred Heart Church. She had been a member of Sacred Heart since the second grade and made her First Communion with four other children. During her lifetime, she was a Eucharistic minister, part of Extend-a-Hand, a member of the Resurrection Choir and she worked on the expansion committee for the Columbiettes for many years. The Columbiettes were her second family and she enjoyed all the times she spent with her special friends.
Her most precious moments were with her grandchildren. She would get so excited when they were coming for a visit or when she went to visit them in Bethlehem and Massachusetts. She went on many outings with them, Cape Cod vacations, Christmas shows in Boston, New York City, Bethlehem and Springfield fairs and even to a Red Sox game. She just loved being with her family.
Besides her husband, George, she leaves her son, William Cote and his wife, Tricia, of Bethlehem and their daughter, Kayla; her daughter, Kristina Folan and her husband, Dennis, of Medfield, Mass., and their children, Dennis, Ariana and Jack. She also leaves her brother, Frank Ditter and his wife, Barbara, and her nephews, Frank Ditter and his wife, Jean, and Stephen Ditter and his wife, Dayna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 19, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury. The family will receive visitors at the church chapel prior to Mass from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury. Arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home of Southbury.
